ARTISTS STATEMENT

Like a majority of representational artists, my paintings have stories to tell. Over the years, connections develop and mature in the places we choose to paint and the frequency we return to those sites. The seasons, and their sounds within nature make an impact on the final paintings.  Collectively, the experiences behind the paintings were formed long ago, in my early years of painting outdoors.  Exploring the outdoors meant new discoveries, sketching and painting naturally joined in. Whether hiking state and national parks, or nearby woods, camping, canoeing or fishing, I became connected to my surroundings. The energies and inspirations provided through nature continue to guide my paintings. There is an unmistakable sense of place and connection that occurs when you are painting for hours on location. The journeys are every bit the enjoyment as is the painting destination itself. The paintings are representative of the love I have for nature and being a part of it. The mountains, rivers and wilderness provide more than just painting inspiration, they nurture the mind, body and soul.
